Inmate charged with attempted escape and battery

05/19/2020

The Jennings County Sheriff's Office is conducting an investigation involving a Jennings County Jail inmate that attempted to flee the Jennings County Jail and committed battery on jail officers.

On May 18, 2020 at approximately 11:30 AM, Jail Sergeant Steve Frey opened a holding cell door to check on the status of an inmate.  Once the door was open, the inmate attacked Frey and attempted to push Frey to the ground and ran towards a door that leads to a hallway to the outside.   Frey was able to keep the inmate, Jadiah Duncan, from approaching the hallway door.  Duncan would not comply with Frey's verbal commands and continued to fight with Frey.  Jail Captain Evan Ponsler assisted Frey and was able to gain control of Duncan by deploying his Taser and Duncan was eventually returned to his cell.

During the altercation, Captain Evan Ponsler sustained and injury to his knee and was treated and released from a local hospital.
