Fleeing subject located by canine
On September 8, 2020 at approximately 12:30 AM, Jennings County Sheriff's Office Canine Sergeant Cody Low conducted a traffic stop on County Road 350 West for a traffic infraction on a 2003 Chevrolet Malibu. As Deputy Low approached the vehicle, a passenger fled on foot from the vehicle.
Sgt. Low identified the remaining occupants inside the vehicle as Joshua Fugate (24 North Vernon) and Ashley McFall (25 North Vernon). Deputy Doug Brown arrived to assist at which time Sgt. Low deployed his canine, Axel, in an attempt to locate the fleeing passenger. Axel tracked the passenger through several yards and along a soybean field. After approximately a ½ mile of tracking, Axel located the suspect where he was taken into custody without incident. The suspect was identified as Jeremy Mahoney (33 North Vernon). After returning to the stopped vehicle, Axel conducted a free air sniff of the vehicle and gave a positive alert to the odor of Narcotics coming from inside the vehicle. A search of the vehicle yielded numerous smoking devices, methamphetamine, and syringes. All three subjects were arrested and transported to the Jennings County Jail where they are currently being held.
