ARMED STANDOFF ENDS PEACEFULLY

11/11/2020

Nantz

On November 10, 2020 at approximately 11:00 p.m. Jennings County Sheriff's Office Deputies attempted to serve an arrest warrant on Larry Nantz (46 of North Vernon) at a Country Squire Lakes residence. Nantz was wanted on two Jennings County no bond arrest warrants for felony crimes ranging from Resisting Law Enforcement to Arson.

During the investigation Deputies learned Nantz was in a back bedroom of the residence with the door barricaded.  Deputies gave commands for Nantz to come out. Nantz ultimately advised Sgt.Cody Low and Deputy Thomas Mellencamp that he had a gun and was not going back to jail.  Nantz threatened the lives of both Mellencamp and Low if they tried to take him into custody. Deputies removed all other occupants from the residence and set up a perimeter.

Jennings County Sheriff's Office SRT (Special Response Team) was activated and responded.  After nearly an hour of negotiations, Nantz surrendered to Sheriff Kenny Freeman without incident. An air-soft gun that closely resembled a real firearm was located.

While in the driveway after arrest, Nantz spit in the face of a 15 year old female resident while she was attempting to secure dogs inside of the home.

Nantz is currently being held in the Jennings County Jail with no bond on the Jennings County Circuit Court Warrants as well as the new charges of:

Battery by Bodily Waste

2 Counts of Intimidation with a Deadly Weapon

Resisting Law Enforcement

Deputies were assisted by the Indiana State Police Swat Team and Jennings County Central Dispatch.
